West Bengal Government plans Jewellery Park for demonetization-hit gold

The proposed jewellery park is slated to come up on an 8-acre plot beside Belgharia Expressway in West Bengal.

It its bid to create jobs for the gold artisans who have lost their jobs post demonetization, the West Bengal Government is planning to set up a new jewellery park.

The West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) has come up with a new plan to develop a jewellery park on an eight-acre plot beside Belgharia Expressway, says reports. The state government has reportedly asked the WBIDC to submit a detailed report on the project.

The proposed site location has road links to Kolkata, Howrah, Kharagpur and Durgapur and is 12 km from the central business district. The airport is 22 km away from the proposed site.

Once the implementing agency finalises the plan, they will submit it before the cabinet. Once the approval is obtained, there is plan to complete construction within two years, adds a report.

This would be the third of its kind jewellery park — beside Belgharia Expressway in Howrah.
