The DRI mentioned that tracing conflict diamonds was difficult especially after they are transformed with cutting, polishing and grading processes. It however announced that it would introduce stricter controls over India’s diamond centers.

The Indian government plans to straighten its back regards conflict diamonds entering India. The Directorate of Revenue (DRI) had noted that diamantaries in Surat were dealing in conflict diamonds. This stand by the government is especially after India became vice-chairman of the Kimberley Process, and is expected to become chairman in 2008.
