Shah Jahan's dagger and 400 other royal Indian items to go under the hammer at New York Auction

This antique collection includes a diamond encrusted sword hilt of Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala, natural pearl necklace belonging to Rajmata Gayatri Devi and a jade hilted dagger of Mughal King Shah Jahan

In an auction titled ‘Maharajas and Mughal Magnificence’ organized by prestigious house of Christie’s, over 400 royal Indian artefacts will go under the hammer on June 19th in New York. The collection will showcase an unparalleled collection of stunning jewels, diamonds, finest jeweled objects, gemstones, swords, daggers and decorative objects spanning over 500 years from the glorious Mughal era, revealed the auction house.

 

The objects belong to Al Thani collection and are estimated to fetch high prices at the auction. Belonging to Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, a dagger with the inscription in Nasta'liq script is one of the most coveted items in the auction. The estimated price of this item is expected between $ 1.5 million and $ 2.5 million. The hilt of the state sword of Maharaja Jagjit Singh of Kapurthala is an enameled sword set with diamonds. It is estimated to fall between USD$ 100000 and USD$ 150000.

 

Another important item of the auction is a natural pearl and diamond Cartier necklace belonging to the elegant Rajmata Gayatri Devi of Jaipur is expected to fetch high prices due to its exceptional making. The graduated strand of 37 round to oval pearls, ancient cut marquise shaped diamond is estimated to be valued at between $1 million and $1.5 million.
