Jewellery worth Rs 33 crore seized by SIT in IMA Jewels scam

SIT officials spent nearly 18 hours searching IMA Jewels showroom in Bengaluru and recovered jewellery worth Rs 33 crore in a recent development in the IMA Jewels fraud.

According to a press release, SIT officials seized 43 kg of gold ornaments worth Rs 13 crore, 5884 carats diamonds worth Rs 17.6 crore, salt diamonds valued at Rs 1.5 crore and 520 kgs of silver jewellery worth 1.5 crore. The officials also raided the house of Tabassam Banu, the third (divorced) wife of owner Mohammed Mansoor Khan and found 1.5 kg gold worth Rs 39 lakh, 1.5 kg silver ornaments and Rs 2 lakh in cash. The jewellery was examined by a team of 25 appraisers.

The private six floor apartment in SRK Garden, Tilaknagar, where the owner was currently residing was also raided by SIT officials. The sleuths recovered documents worth 1.2 crore and also identified immoveable properties including land, commercial establishments and apartments owned by Khan.

ED officials also visited the IMA Jewels store located at Lady Curzon Road. Photos of the store along with measurements and details were noted by the officials who plan to return to the store once SIT sleuths break open the doors.
