2019 has shaped up to be the year where jewellery industry underwent a significant metamorphosis. From the emergence of lab grown diamond studded jewellery to the growing popularity of transformative pieces- the industry has seen it all. Here is a comprehensive list of trends that emerged in 2019 but are still going strong as we enter 2020

Lightweight Jewellery: Gone are the days of chunky, heavy necklaces and earrings. Women are increasingly favouring lightweight pieces that can be worn on a daily basis giving them a sophisticated and elegant look. Manufacturing techniques have made it possible for jewellers to distribute the weight of gold in a way that they use less metal but still give a solid look. CaratLane, A partnership with Tanishq caters to lightweight jewellery lovers as it launched its new Trinity Collection featuring necklaces, earrings and bracelets which uses minimum metal, but gives maximum style.

Transformative Jewellery: If there is one trend that defines jewellery in 2019, it is transformative jewellery. As women become more and more versatile and don multiple hats, jewellery too have undergone a significant change. Pieces that can be split into two or three smaller pieces are gaining popularity as they can be worn in multiple ways. Van Cleef & Arpels debuted its new High Jewellery Collection, Treasure of Rubies which showcased the amazing craft of transformative pieces. A single necklace can be broken down into six different pieces each featuring a bright and magnificent ruby.

Semi precious crystals: The association between diamonds and coloured gemstones is as old as time, however 2019 saw the use of coloured gemstones like never before. Bright, bold and beautiful these gemstones commanded centre stage in many designs and were often the cynosure of the piece. Perennial favourites like emeralds, rubies and sapphires continue to rule the trends but semi precious crystals like rose quartz, moonstone and jade also created a stir with their eye catching presence. In the past four years, there has been a 40% increase in Google searches for ‘crystal healing’ as many crystals are said to contain healing properties. The latest figures from the Global Wellness Institute – a not-for-profit organisation that reveals where we are at with health, wealth and self – values the industry at $3.7tn globally. So its only natural that we can see several jewelers using these crystals in their designs.

Rose Gold Jewellery: For centuries now gold and silver have been the only two options used while making jewellery. But with the emergence of millennial pink, rose gold coloured jewellery has dominated the market. A universally flattering tone, rose gold toned jewellery suits women of all skin tones and effortlessly combines with both Indian and western outfits. Every brand both Indian and international, has a collection dedicated to this metal and has captured the hearts of consumers globally.

Celestial Elements: Elements of the universe like stars, planets and constellations have served as an inspiration to several creative artists over the years. So it no surprise then that jewellery too reflects the mystical and spellbinding nature of these elements. With the launch of Les Galaxies de Cartier collection which includes 30 pieces inspired by the universe, astral elements have marked their presence. Motifs like the sun, moon, stars and comets have graced jewellery pieces in a variety of different shapes and styles making them a defining trend of 2019. Just like the universe is infinite, the inspiration provided by these celestial bodies too is infinite.
