The world has changed and so has the luxury industry...

Change is a continuous process. The unexpected and unprecedented pandemic has accelerated the change process. It has also aggravated certain problems of the industry.

Watches and jewellery together contribute to more than 36% of the Indian luxury products.

Both these industries have been slow in adopting digitalisation as their foundation was built on brick and mortar model.  Proactive organizations have their digital strategy in place. Others have accelerated the process.

While the acceleration is a good development, the pandemic has aggravated certain issues and made life difficult for retailers. Those with too many physical stores or excess debt are in trouble.
The way consumers perceive luxury has changed. Democratization of luxury has meant that luxury is not exclusive but inclusive.

The traditional brick & mortar model is undergoing a transforming itself and moving from Omni channel to unified retail or new retail, a term coined by Alibaba.

In the context of marquee brands heritage is important. However, brands can no longer rest on their laurels and need to connect to today’s millennial and gen Z consumers by talking to them in their language.
The first edition of Luxe Talks webinar will discuss these issues and more on August 7, 2020 at 4 pm in India, 11.30 am in UK & 2.30 pm in the UAE.

Sachin Jain Managing Director of De Beers India and Phillipe Roten have impeccable track record. Sachin Jain was associated with the watch industry as Brand Head for Tissot a leading watch brand from the Swatch Group stable. Phillipe Roten on the other was associated with Gubelin as Director and has also worked with LVMH and the Swatch group.

Mahul Brahma is the chief editor and head of Mjunction, India’s largest B2B e commerce company belonging to the TATA group. He is also the author of three books on Luxury.

Luxe Talks is curated and will be moderated by Anil Prabhakar,  an independent consultant associated with the watch and jewellery industry for over two decades.
