In today’s world where men and women walk shoulder to shoulder it is important we realize the significance of women empowerment. The contribution and excellence that this gender has brought in each field inspired IGI to initiate an all-women’s empowerment program at Surat.

The initiative is among the institute’s ongoing efforts to enhance the lives of women across all paths of life. “IGI Women Empowerment” is all about making women socially and financially independent and thus giving them an opportunity to make their own decisions.
IGI ran a recruitment drive for women between the age of 18 to 26 in an attempt to develop their skills to become gemologists.

With over 25 women recruited for its first run they aim to educate them and help master their skill sets in the Gem & Jewelry Industry.

IGI’s initiative is in process to be a part of the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), India. The candidates are trained for a period of 12 months in the field of study with experts at IGI honing their skills. The minimum qualification needed is to pass standard twelve examinations to be eligible for this programme. The applicants were shortlisted after an extensive interview process which evaluated their communication skills as well as their passion to learn. During the apprenticeship, candidates are entitled to a stipend. On successful completion of the training, they will be employed at IGI itself.

“With the growing need to educate and empower the women in our country, it is important for corporates to develop timely schemes and programs to foster the cause. The IGI Women Empowerment Scheme will assist women to get trained and work in an industry that is all set to create ripples in the global economy. The participants will be trained, mentored and empowered to better their lives and that of their families with equal opportunities” said Tehmasp Printer, President and Managing Director, IGI.
