How powerful it is to see, The different kinds of beautiful we can be.
Global luxury maison Her Story has reimagined their Diversa collection in an exclusive all-diamond design. Inspired by the beauty of diversity, it celebrates individuality in our world, through unique and cohesive designs. As the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg said, “We will all profit from a more diverse, inclusive society, understanding, accommodating, even celebrating our differences."
This spirit of inclusivity comes alive through the life and work of Doyel Joshi and Neil Ghose Balser, the interdisciplinary artists behind HowAreYouFeeling.Studio – a creative studio that works on new formats of public engagement, to expand the scope of what art can do outside of traditional gallery and performance spaces. Through their art, the couple create opportunities for inclusion – for different stories and perspectives to shine together. Like at their first exhibition and creative collaboration with Her Story at the Great Eastern Home, Mumbai. 108 women artisans from UP Deoria performed alongside HowAreYouFeeling.Studio, raising questions of class and social constructs and exploring the lines between artist, artisan and audience. The Her Story poem, which speaks of identity in a modern world, was integrated into the immersive art piece, and the artisans sat in the formation of the maison’s signature pattern that is derived from the poem. In every formation, however, seats were left open, to encourage participation from the audience and a sharing of perspectives. “In the complexity of our lives and of our world, the only way to create solutions is a marriage of different ideas, people, class, culture,” the artists opine. “Things that may make you prejudiced to what’s outside your comfort zone or belief system – the moment you're able to shed that, it's like the world opens.”
The duo were first noticed for their avant-garde wedding in Rajasthan, which worked on sustainability principles and gently, through art, questioned norms. An Indian girl married to a German-Indian boy, Joshi, and Ghose Balser also bring alive the spirit of diversity through their partnership. “When we decided to marry, we became very aware of our roots, identities, socialisation, and upbringing,” they share. “Rather than seeing differences and dualities, we explore the ‘in between', which is much more complex and rich.”
The Diversa collection, a meaningful and sophisticated expression of diversity, is a fitting expression for the couple. The 18K white-gold jewels are designed with a creative selection of different diamond cuts and shapes – including marquise, oval, round, princess, pear, cushion, and emerald-cut white diamonds. The single geometric emerald-cut diamond amid the other shapes represents the unique individual in a diverse world. These are beautifully framed by pavé-set diamonds and, in select pieces, offset by special-cut black onyx. The onyx has been specially cut after sourcing to achieve an identical look throughout the collection. Handcrafted by a team of skilled artisans, the collection has been perfected over 200 hours of product design and 600 hours of manufacturing processes. The variety of shapes and sizes in cohesive arrangements form a symbolic representation of the spirit of inclusivity.
Brand Director Sitanshi Talati-Parikh says, “The collection celebrates the idea of a diverse world. Inclusion isn’t about differences in a homogenous world; rather it is about celebrating uniqueness by seeing the beauty of a heterogenous world. In its new avatar, the elegant Diversa collection showcases a symbolic harmony of varied diamond shapes in special cuts coming together to form a distinctive and organic whole.”
The collection, with a range of one-of-a-kind rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces, can be experienced at the Her Story flagship boutique in Kala Ghoda.
