The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) marked the 25th anniversary of its Eastern Regional Office with a grand celebration at The Bengal Paddle Jetty in Kolkata. The event was attended by industry stalwarts, including GJEPC Chairman Vipul Shah, Vice Chairman Kirit Bhansali, Executive Director Sabyasachi Ray, Regional Chairman (Eastern India) Pankaj Parekh, and other key stakeholders from the gem and jewellery sector. Chief Guest Shivaji H Dange, IRS, Principal Commissioner of Customs, Airport & ACC Kolkata, graced the occasion.

Chairman Vipul Shah highlighted GJEPC’s growth trajectory, stating that India’s gem and jewellery market, currently valued at USD 85 billion, is projected to reach USD 130 billion by 2030. He also announced a strategic collaboration with De Beers Group under the INDRA initiative (Indian Natural Diamond Retailer Alliance) to bolster natural diamond promotion in India through AI-driven marketing and advanced retailer support.

The Council’s recent B2B trade show, IIJS Signature 2025, generated an estimated business of Rs. 35,000 crore, attracting over 25,000 trade visitors, including international buyers from 60+ countries. GJEPC is also gearing up for its inaugural exhibition in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in September 2025, aimed at strengthening Indo-GCC trade relations.

In a significant move to boost exports, GJEPC signed an MoU with DHL Express to enhance global shipping of India-crafted jewellery. Additionally, the Council is working with the Maharashtra Government on skill development initiatives and is exploring making Singur (West Bengal) a global hub for fashion and costume jewellery, leveraging its skilled artisan workforce.

Looking ahead, Mr. Shah expressed optimism for 2025, citing geopolitical stability and emerging trade opportunities. He emphasized India’s strengths in design, technology, and craftsmanship, reaffirming the Council’s commitment to making India a global leader in the gem and jewellery industry.
