The demand for pret jewellery has skyrocketed among NRIs planning destination weddings. As Vrinda Agarwal, Atarashi -- Minimalistic Jewellery, Ahmedabad, explains, "The demand for pret jewellery among NRIs has grown rapidly due to its perfect balance of style, practicality, and affordability. Since pret jewellery is budget-friendly, it is safe and convenient to carry for destination weddings."

Ishu Datwani, Anmol Jewellers, Mumbai, also outlines the need for more functional jewellery that can be easily transported, especially when it comes to destination weddings. "Destination weddings combine tradition and modernity, and this is why pret jewellery is becoming popular among NRIs. It is lightweight and versatile, and the designs are ideal for pre-wedding events like mehendi and sangeet. Pret jewellery adds charm, while being practical for transportation and multiple occasions,” he says.

Aditya Modak, Gargi by P. N. Gadgil & Sons, Pune, underscores the powerful role Bollywood plays in shaping jewellery trends, especially for NRIs. He explains, "Pret jewellery has been a trend that has been in vogue, and has been picking up momentum for quite some time. The influence of Bollywood celebrities, often seen donning exquisite pret pieces at various high-profile events and weddings, has significantly shaped this trend. Actresses such as Alia Bhatt and Sonam Kapoor have been spotted wearing stunning pret jewellery, inspiring many NRIs to opt for similar styles."

Designed for Elegance and Comfort

Designing jewellery that strikes the right balance between style and comfort is key to the success of pret jewellery for destination weddings. Agarwal explains, "Our designs are lightweight, elegant, and comfortable — perfect for long destination wedding celebrations. At the same time, our designs are great for everyday-wear as well, meaning they transition seamlessly from wedding festivities to regular occasions."

Echoing this sentiment, Saket Keshri, Ratnalaya Jewellers, Patna, highlights the versatility of pret jewellery. He says, "The idea (with pret) is to design lightweight jewellery that offers broader functionality. For example, a necklace crafted for a bride’s sangeet can also be styled for other functions, ensuring versatility."

Another important element of pret jewellery is the comfort it offers to the wearer. At Anmol Jewellers, this aspect takes precedence. "At Anmol, we focus on creating timeless, yet practical, pret jewellery. Our pieces are designed using lightweight materials and modern styles, ensuring both comfort and sophistication for all-day wear," says Datwani.

Modak elaborates on the design philosophy of his company, saying each pret piece is made keeping the bride in mind. Says he, , "We consider the body and face structure of the wearer, as well as the outfits they will pair the jewellery with. This ensures that our pieces not only complement their look, but also provide comfort for pre-wedding events."

Collections That Celebrate Every Occasion

Pret jewellery collections are designed with the diverse needs of pre-wedding celebrations in mind, offering flexibility and elegance for various events. Agarwal notes, "Our collections for pre-wedding celebrations feature vibrant statement earrings, intricately designed hand harnesses, elegant chokers, and other standout pieces that capture the joyous spirit of events like mehendi and sangeet."

Datwani highlights the  innovative approach of Anmol, saying, "Our recent collection, 'Bride & Boujee’, is the perfect blend of tradition with modern elegance. Pieces like statement earrings and adjustable bracelets are versatile, complementing both traditional and contemporary outfits."

Emphasizing recommendations tailored for different ceremonies, Keshri advises, "For mehendi, we recommend filigree work jewellery adorned with precious stones to add a touch of tradition and elegance. For sangeet or cocktail parties, a diamond necklace paired with chandelier earrings makes for a glamorous, yet sophisticated, look."

Modak adds, "We offer an extensive range of collections catering to diverse budgets, with prices starting from as low as Rs 1,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh. For mehendi, our focus is on intricate designs that complement henna patterns. For sangeet, our pieces are vibrant and dynamic, mirroring the festive atmosphere."

Why Pret Jewellery Is Here to Stay

The shift from traditional heavy jewellery to pret pieces reflects a growing preference for practicality and style. As Keshri explains, "Both brides and working women now prefer lightweight, versatile jewellery that can be worn on multiple occasions. Earlier, people would invest in one heavy necklace, but now they want six or seven different designs within the same budget."

Modak agrees, noting, "Selecting jewellery should be a thoughtful process. It is not just about choosing pieces that reflect one's personality, but also about finding ones that suit the event. This ensures that pret jewellery becomes an integral part of the overall ensemble, elevating the wearer’s beauty and confidence."

Pret jewellery has successfully bridged the gap between tradition and modernity, making it the ultimate accessory for destination weddings. With its lightweight designs, vibrant collections, and focus on versatility, it is no surprise that NRIs are embracing this trend with open arms. Whether it is the bride, her friends, or the family, pret jewellery offers something for everyone, ensuring they shine effortlessly through every celebration.
