The exhibition comes at a time when the industry is grappling with a combination of high gold prices, disruptions in the diamond supply chain, and broader global economic pressures. According to industry voices, these factors have made it harder for jewellers to maintain customer affordability, while also putting pressure on inventory and procurement.

Inaugurated by Narendra Kataria, President of the Shimla Club, the event drew local attention for its timing and scale. While acknowledging the adverse market conditions, the exhibition attempted to create a space for consumers to interact with jewellers, explore new designs, and uphold the cultural significance of Akshaya Tritiya—a traditional time for buying gold.

Akshay Verma, Managing Director of Verma Jewellers, pointed to the broader macroeconomic headwinds; "The jewellery industry is undoubtedly going through a tough time. Gold prices are at an all-time high, and the diamond sector is facing serious challenges—from limited mining activity and procurement issues to supply chain disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions, particularly in Russia," he said.

Despite these issues, Verma expressed cautious optimism about the sector’s future, citing the jewellery industry’s potential role in employment generation and economic recovery.

The Shimla event reportedly saw good turnout, with attendees showing continued interest in both traditional and contemporary pieces. Residents, known for their appreciation of craft and heritage, engaged with the collections, reflecting a sense of continued trust even amid uncertainty.
