The Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ), Mumbai, inaugurated its newly modernised campus, marking a significant step towards shaping the future of India’s jewellery education and skill development.
The launch ceremony brought together prominent leaders of the gems and jewellery industry, including Chief Guest Shri Kirit Bhansali, Chairman of GJEPC India; Guests of Honour Shri Dilipbhai V. Lakhi, Chairman of Lakhi Group, and Shri Raj Hitendra Parikh, Managing Director of Uni-Design Jewellery. They were joined by Shri Adil Kotwal, President of SEEPZ GJMA; Shri Sanjay Kothari, Founding Board Member of IIGJ Mumbai; and Shri Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director of GJEPC. The event was chaired by Shri Milan Chokshi, Chairman of IIGJ Mumbai, alongside CEO Shri Debasish Biswas.
The upgraded campus is equipped with advanced infrastructure and contemporary learning facilities, aimed at preparing students and professionals for the demands of a fast-evolving global marketplace.
Industry leaders hailed the development as a milestone for the sector. Shri Kirit Bhansali emphasised IIGJ’s two-decade-long contribution to nurturing over 8,000 professionals and its ambition to become a Deemed University. Shri Dilipbhai Lakhi called for greater expansion of IIGJ centres across key jewellery hubs, while Shri Raj Hitendra Parikh and Shri Adil Kotwal highlighted the importance of innovation, skill-building, and capacity creation in driving India towards global leadership in jewellery.
Shri Sanjay Kothari reflected on the institute’s foundation built through industry support, while Shri Milan Chokshi reiterated IIGJ’s mission to give back to the trade by empowering new generations of talent. Shri Sabyasachi Ray underscored the importance of knowledge-driven growth to keep India ahead in design, cutting, and manufacturing.
Founded in 2002, IIGJ Mumbai has become a cornerstone of jewellery education in India, offering a three-year degree program, a postgraduate diploma, and professional certifications. With more than 8,000 graduates contributing to the industry worldwide, the institute is now preparing to serve as the main campus of a proposed Deemed University under UGC by 2026–27.
Located in Andheri East, the modernised 14,000 sq. ft. campus houses CAD and gemmology labs, a manufacturing workshop, a library, and an auditorium, reinforcing its status as a premier centre for gems and jewellery learning.
