During its Geneva Sale, Christie’s announced some notable feats for the auction markets. It sold a total of 265 lots, which valued upto $ 56,967,067. The total value of the 365 lots put on sale was Sfr. 59,245,750. This auction was noted as the highest total ever reached for a jewellery auction at Christie’s. %% “Concluding a fabulous $ 82.7 million week of sales of jewellery, watches and wine, up 70% compared with May 2007, the jewellery sale saw extremely strong prices for colourless and coloured diamonds. The specialists who worked with me on the auction ensured that the jewels in the sale were carefully selected and estimated to meet the demands of the market. This was a ideal way to celebrate our 40th anniversary in Switzerland.” said Eric Valdieu, Head of the Swiss Jewellery Department and Vice-President of Christie's Geneva. %% There were six jewels which earned more than $ 2 m, while the largest fancy intense blue diamond ever sold at auction valued at $ 8.8 m. This was a 13.39 carats rectangular mixed-cut fancy intense blue, VS1 diamond, bought by a private buyer. There were a sautoir and a brooch crafted in emerald, diamond and natural pearl, which earned $5.6m and $4.4m, respectively. A heart-shaped fancy vivid yellow, 21.40 carats IF diamond went for $3.1m, a rectangular-cut E, VS1 diamond of 27.37 carats for $2.2m, an oval-shaped 13.72 carats unheated ruby ring for $1.8m, an octagonal step-cut H, 21.03 carats IF diamond for $1.3m, an octagonal-cut D, VS2, 10.02 carats Golconda diamond of $1.0m, and a cushion-shaped F, IF diamond of 10.72 carats for $0.99m.
