US is still the leading importer of Israel’s polished diamonds, although Hong Kong, India, Switzerland and England have also shown an increase in their share of imports. Exports to India have more than tripled compared to the first seven months of 2007. %% Diamond trade for Israel, in the month of July 2008, saw an increase in both exports and imports of polished products. Exports of polished diamonds increased by 28 percent to $821.52 million and imports by 12 percent to $425.67 million, in the said month. Israel’s net polished exports increased by 51 percent and amounted to $395.86 million.%% Although the rough products showed a see saw in trade. While imports fell by 5 percent to $468.23 million, exports scaled up by 17 percent to $312.73 million in the same month. There was a decline in net rough imports by 31 percent to $155.49 million. %% In the seven months 2008, polished exports have generated an increase of 9 percent to $4.61 billion, and imports have increased by 18 percent to $2.77 billion. Although, the net polished dipped by 2 percent to $1.84 billion. The import of rough diamonds in the year to date period increased by 12 percent to $3.24 billion and exports increased by 24 percent to $2.49 billion. Yet the net rough imports dipped by 16 percent to $751.75 million.
