GIA sponsors IJ Jewellers Choice Design Awards 2012 edition

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has confirmed that it will once again sponsor the IJ Jewellers Choice Design Awards.

On 25 September, Sotheby’s New York is holding a sale of jewels, categorised as Important Jewels, a selection of signed and period estate jewels and white diamonds. Another selective group of period jewels will be on sale, of which most are Cartier designs. %% The total number of lots expected to be on sale is 450 lots, with a sale worth of $11-$15mn. %% Of the period collection, which is owned by a private collector, more than 40 lots will be opened in the second session for sale. The jewels mainly exhibit a design style of the 1940s and 40s and include - a Cartier designed rock crystal, tourmaline, and diamond clip/bangle combination from, circa 1935, with a sale tag of $15,000-$20,000, an emerald-cut Harry Winston diamond ring, circa 1962, set with a D color, VS1 clarity stone, weighing 7.59 carats, with a pre-sale tag of between $250,000-350,000, a Tiffany & Co designed diamond ring set with a D color, internally flawless, oval modified brilliant-cut diamond of 7.33 carats, and with two tapered baguette diamonds, mounted in platinum having a pre-auction sale worth of $625,000 to 675,000. %% The pre-sale exhibition opens on 20 September.
