The Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, which is hosting the prestigious Thailand International Jewelry Award 2009 (TIJA2009), is soon expecting to announce the final names of those shortlisted candidates for the TIJA award. The announcement is expected on 27 November 2008. The event is likely to host more than 45,000 attendees. %% So far, 1,500 entries have been submitted for the TIJA 2009 for two design categories namely Day Time and Executive. The list of entries was narrowed to 300, and finally 60 during last week. %% "This jewelry design award has gained prominence as Thailand is presently considered to be one of the world's top exporters of gems and jewelry, an industry that has played a crucial part in the country's economy. Despite the reported 46% growth rate in the local gemstone business, the market has become increasingly competitive. The entire industry has recognized that jewelry design is the crucial key to strengthening market share and gaining valuable ground," said Vichai Assarasakorn, President of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Trade Association. %% The organisers have arranged for the 60 final contestants to see their sketches manufactured and displayed in the main foyer of the 43rd Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair (BGJF) scheduled between February 25 to March 1, 2009, at the Bangkok's Impact Challenger Exhibition Center. The top three winners will receive trophies made from 100 percent gold, and other honours. %% Somchai Phornchindarak, CEO Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, said that designers will have a chance to further their reputation and will receive international exposure as the displays are exhibited at various shows around the world. "In this latest pursuit, we have concentrated on supporting designers around the globe to share their experience, skills and knowledge. In the long term, we hope that this endeavor will serve to improve jewellery quality, sales volumes as well as entice new participants to the fascinating field of jewelry design."
