A meeting was recently held between Peruvian President Alan Garcia Perez of Peru and Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri, president of CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, in the President’s office in Lima, to work out ways in which the fine jewellery sector of the country could be developed in turn spurring sustainable economic and social development. The meeting was attended by other officials including Guillermo Scotto, the Gold Committee chairman of Peru's National Society of Industries (SNI). %% Dr. Cavalieri has been interacting with government and industry leaders in Peru, during his week long visit and noted that, "Peru's jewellery industry has enormous, but untapped potential," Dr. Cavalieri noted, after his meeting with President Perez "This is an opinion that is shared by both the government and the industry. They clearly want to develop it further, but in a way that is socially responsible and bring the best possible economic benefit to their country. Dr. Cavalieri will make known his views during the First International Conference on Jewelry (slated between April 27-29), where he will attend as chief guest of honour. The event is being held in Peru's northern city of Cajamarca. He will speak on Corporate Social Responsibility in the world jewellery industry.
