The Hyderabad Gems, Pearl and Jewellery show, is a consumer-cum-trade show, and is being organised between 9-12 July, 2009, in Hyderabad. It is considered the biggest South India Show. %% Majority of the exhibitors are from Hyderabad, Jaipur and Mumbai. Some international counterparts from Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan and Sri Lanka are also participating. Consumers and trade visitors are being accommodated in Hall1, while there is a second exhibition hall exclusively for the trade. Exhibition has 130 exhibitors from five countries, displaying their products, although the participation has decreased by almost 20 percent over last year. %% The event expects around 10,000 visitors across the four days. Consumer response has been encouraging and for exhibitors like those from Hyderabad, who are directed at consumers, participation has been fruitful, so far. For those targeting trade sales, the response has been low, as was felt by the international participants. MVee- Aspire Design from Hong Kong and HV Jewels from Thailand received good number of queries, but low business, owing to steep prices. %% Hyderabad recently hosted the GJF board of directors meeting, which brought more than 50 delegations and retailers from all over India. GJF also organised a seminar sponsored by Mussaddilal Jewellers and Exporters. The seminar hosted a panel of prominent jewellers of India from various cities, who joined heads to discuss the future of jewellery industry in India, discussing issues such as curb on unofficial cash dealings by jewellers, competition between the retailers, thin margins, importance of innovation and specialisation to leverage business for retailers.
