The 26th edition of the India International Jewellery Show organised by GJEPC, was inaugurated on August 6, 2009. Spanning five days, the event has been able to capture the interest and attention of buyers, sellers and the trade within the first two days itself. For many participants, business has been rewarding with enquiries and transactions. The mood of the economic slowdown has been uplifted with the hustle bustle of buyers and traders. %% The 2009 edition of the IIJS has succeeded in appeasing to the mindset of every participant and visitor. Knowledge sharing platforms were fruitful in opening conventional thoughts towards marketing, was presented by Titan’s Gold Plus. New products and services saw a launch pad at the IIJS, which also marked an enthusiasm amongst everybody to make a change and move on from the sluggish markets. One such was the GIA launching its Diamond Sealing Service in India, a market it considers as rewarding. %% The Indian diamond community took special interest during the inaugural session of the event, as GJEPC placed concerns of octroi levies on diamonds in Maharashtra and the need for India to have its own convention centre. The GJEPC placed its request before the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ashok Shankarrao Chavan, who responded with hope. %% The IIJS-2009 could be a barometer for the comeback of the trade, wherein the global trade would grow with joint efforts of the trade, government and the consumers. The Indian gem and jewellery industry could look ahead as a pioneering market for the trade.
