Import duty on gold jewellery hiked to 15%

The move comes after the government increased customs duty on gold, silver and platinum to 10 per cent through successive revisions.

It has been announced that the management of the Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Show is preparing to increase its promotional efforts for its participant diamond companies. The show is slated between - March 18-25, 2010. The announcement follows a letter written by Avi Paz, president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, in which he asked to improve the show's communication efforts to diamond buyers. %% The promotional efforts include developing press releases to all the show's database of journalists and media worldwide, communicating the importance of the diamond sector at the show; a daily full page special report on diamond exhibitors and the diamond sector in the Baselworld Daily News magazine which is printed and distributed in 15,000 copies during the show; mailings of the Baselworld Visitor Brochure to diamond buyers in Europe; the inclusion of positive diamond buyer feedback of the show in Baselworld's Corporate Video 2010; and the mention of the importance of the diamond sector at Baselworld in interviews, speeches and articles prepared by the show management.%% WFDB president Paz mentioned that these measures would help increase visibility of participating diamond exhibitors and leverage awareness on the important role played by diamonds in this most prestigious trade show. He said, "We have also asked the show to enable companies to share booth space and to lower the costs in order to allow companies to continue their participation and presence at Baselworld. "
