A pioneering diamantaire – Mr. Mahendra Mafatlal ‘Madhu’ Mehta, of Jayam Manufacturing recently passed away, due to heart problems. Mr. Mehta has been a revolutionary influence to the diamond industry both in India and Antwerp. %% He delved in diamonds and diamond manufacturing as a career, taking on the reigns from his family business. The Mehta family has been said to have laid the foundation for the modern Indian polishing industry, imparting technical training from Flemish experts brought in from Antwerp. Jayam Manufacturing is one of the first Indian companies to begin its operations in Antwerp. It became a DTC Sightholder in the 1970’s for 30 long years. %% Mr. Mehta has left behind a treasure of valuable knowledge and business accumen, through his achievements.
