RBI's Modified Import Norms Come With Some Riders

The Sotheby’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite sale, held recently, has generated a total sale of $52.4 million. It was characterised with a positive outlook by buyers and collectors seeking rare and exceptional jewels. %% The highlights of the sale included the top selling item – the diamond Rivière necklace, which was bought for $6.7 million. The piece is set with 50 D colour internally flawless brilliant-cut diamonds ranging from 1.50 to 6.55 carats, with a total weight of 107.43 carats. %% The other highlight was a 5.16-carat, internally flawless, natural fancy vivid blue diamond, bought by Moussaieff of London for $6.4 million or $1.24 million per carat. The diamond is amongst the 11 blue diamonds of the De Beers Millennium Jewels Collection and was cut and polished by the Steinmetz Diamond Group, reports say. The stone had a presales estimate of $4.6 million to $5.8 million.
