A 27.03 carat – D - VVS1 type IIa diamond, a 10.19 carat - square cut fancy intense orangy pink diamond and a 12.50 carat pear-shaped diamond ring were the top three diamonds sold at the Christie's New York Jewels sale, reports say. Each of the three were sold above their presale estimates – the sale’s top lot, the 27.03 carat type IIa diamond was bought for $131,500 per carat, or $3,554,500, while the orangy pink diamond was bought for $2,322,500 and the pear-shaped diamond ring sold for $1,482,500, reports add. %% The auction realised sales worth a total of $15,226,275, in which 84 percent of the lots on offer were sold. %% Rahul Kadakia, Head of Jewelry for Christie’s Americas commented: “As a sign of the resurgence of the market, a cushion-cut D VVS1 diamond of 27 carats achieved $131,500 per carat in this sale, versus $130,000 per carat for a 30-carat D color Flawless diamond sold in New York at this time last year. This represents a 45% per-carat increase in the value of top diamonds in just 12 months time. A fitting close to the spring Jewelry season at Christie’s U.S., which achieved a grand total of $56 million in sales.” %% Amongst the other top 10 lots sold included A pair of cushion-cut diamond ear pendants of 12.02 and 11.60 cts (bought for $662,500), followed by A rectangular-cut fancy vivid yellow, VS1 diamond of 6.36 cts (bought for $374,500), A natural pearl and diamond necklace measuring from 10.30 to 7.40 mm (bought for $338,500), A diamond rivière necklace of 65 graduated diamonds (bought for $266,500), A multi-gem necklace featuring the Tsar Alexander III Amethyst, by Prince Dimitri (bought for $242,500) and A group of 100 gold coins, Austria, 100-Corona, 1915 (bought for $224,500).
