Election results for the appointment of six new members to the 12-member Board of Directors of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), were recently announced. According to procedures, the six members are elected directly by members of the Antwerp diamond sector to represent the sector’s trading companies. %% In the direct elections, company representative are grouped in three categories based on the average turnover over the past two reported years, 2008 and 2009 and each group appoints two representatives. The first group with an average annual turnover bracket of over € 100 million appointed Amit Bhansali and Nishit Parkh this year; the second group (with the respective bracket between € 30 million and € 100 million) appointed Sohil Jhaveri and Nishit Kothari and the third group (with a turnover bracket of less than € 30 million) appointed Mihir Mehta and Samir Mehta in the third group. %% According to the AWDC constitution, three directors of the 12-member Board of Directors are appointed by the federation representing the city’s four diamond exchanges and this year Philippe Barsamian, Freddy Inzlicht and Jacky Korn were elected to represent the exchanges. Antwerp’s diamond manufacturing associations elect one member and have appointed Stéphane Fischler for this year. One director who is appointed by the employee organizations is yet to be identified. The 12th position, an independent director, is appointed by the new board itself. The new Board of Directors will elect from among its members a new president for AWDC. Outgoing AWDC President Jacky Roth who will be retiring after four years in office, will receive a farewell by the board.
