Christie’s Jewels: The New York Sale, held on October 20, 2010 was especially significant as it offered The BVLGARI Blue Diamond, noted as the largest triangular-shaped Fancy Vivid blue diamond ever to appear at auction. The BVLGARI Blue Diamond is an exceptional two-stone diamond ring designed in the 1970s by BVLGARI, with a triangular-shaped colorless diamond of 9.87 carats paired with a stunning triangular-shaped Fancy Vivid blue diamond of 10.95 carats. It carried a pre-sale estimate of over $12 million, and was bought by an Asian collector for $15,762,500 with premium – making it the top jewel sold at auction thus far in 2010. %% %% “At 7:15pm, when The BVLGARI Blue reached the auction block, the saleroom remained packed with collectors eagerly awaiting the star lot of this blockbuster sale,” said François Curiel. “The bidding started with an $8 million bid. The pair traded bids back and forth in $500,000 increments until the final bid was reached”, he added. The BVLGARI Blue was offered for sale by a private European collector who has kept the ring in his family for almost 40 years and was bought for about $1 million US. %% Earlier in the day, Christie’s achieved an impressive 100 percent sell-through rate for Jeweled Elegance: The Eye of A Distinguished Collector, a carefully-curated single-owner collection of over 160 signed jewels from the most celebrated designers, including Cartier, David Webb, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Harry Winston. This realized a combined total of $11.4 million, far above its pre-sale high estimate. %% Christie’s Jewels: The New York Sale including the JAR Imperial Topaz, Ruby and Diamond Ear Pendants, The Bulgari Blue, Jeweled Elegance & the Vanderbilt Diamond Necklace, offered 447 lots. The sale generated revenues worth $52,492,138 from the 402 lots sold. Amongst the top lots that sold were: A rectangular-cut D color, potentially flawless diamond ring of 17.65 carats by Harry Winston was bought for $2,154,500, a pear-shaped D color, VS1 diamond ring of 17.86 carats by Harry Winston sold for $1,818,500, a pear-shaped D color, IF diamond of 12.32 carats was bought for $1,314,500, a rectangular-cut D color, potentially flawless diamond ring of 12.21 carats by Graff went down the hammer for $1,258,500, a Diamond “Holly Wreath” Necklace, by Harry Winston, 1962, total weight of diamonds approximately 152.35 carats was bought for $1,202,500, an Art Deco “Tutti Frutti” Diamond, Multi-Gem and Enamel Sautoir, by Mauboussin, 1927 was bought for $1,106,500, a cushion-cut E color, VVS1 diamond of 14.10 carats was bought for $1,034,500, a pair of cushion-cut Kashmir Sapphire Ear Pendants sold for $782,500, a Pair of Imperial Topaz, Ruby, and Diamond Ear Pendants, by JAR sold for $650,500.
