In addition to its ongoing venture in jewellery exports, Indian jewellery manufacturing company Tara Jewels plans expanding its retail base and intends supporting its plans with the issue of an initial public offering, to raise Rs 200 crore. The company has filed a Draft Red Herring Prospectus with the SEBI for the same. %% Reports state that the company is planning its stores to open in metros, mini-metros and other cities, targeting the mid-income segment. Currently 15 Tara Jewels stores operate in India’s northern region and another 15 are planned to open within two weeks. %% The Tara Jewels stores, designed by international consultancy firm Fitch over 800 to 1,200 sq. ft., are unique in the manner of their sales approach, as consumers are not assisted by any sales person, rather have the liberty to try out any of the displayed jewellery and finally approach a counter only for payment. Jewellery to be displayed at the store includes daily wear category of pendants, earrings or bangles and event specific from weddings to evening or party wear. There over 20,000 designs to select from.
