Jaipur welcomed a new training centre for its gem and jewellery industry - Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ), which was inaugurated on December 13, 2010, in Sitapura, Jaipur, at the hands of Hon. Chief Minister of Rajasthan Shri Ashok Gehlot . Prominent jewellers of the city, many of whom have provided support to the project, attended the inauguration. %% Previously, the city was home to Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council’s Jewellery Product Development Centre (JPDC), a smaller initiative in the form of a training institute, for the gem and jewellery industry. However, IIGJ, which is also an initiative of the GJEPC is projected as a new landmark for the Jaipur city, which is housed in a dedicated building of its own, and offering multiple courses from designing of jewellery to manufacturing the final piece . GIA too has slated to conduct courses in a classroom dedicated to GIA, with faculty from Mumbai. GIA plans to offer 30 percent scholarship to students for GIA Courses at the IIGJ, Jaipur . %% Rajiv Jain, Chairman, GJEPC and Vijay Choradia, Hon.Secretary -IIGJ said, “ It is a dream come true for us . We started with a very small center of JPDC and handfull of students few years back, which is now transformed in this mega campus . “. %% At the event, Chief minister Shri Ashok Gehlot also confirmed an allotment of land for a hostel facility near the institute, to accommodate students outside Jaipur vicinity .
