This October, Japan’s polished diamond imports fell by 19.5 per cent by value to $88.84 million, but increased by 4.5 per cent to 264,525 carats in terms of volume, to average $336 per carat, according to reports.%%Polished diamond imports from India in October, dropped by 24.6 per cent to $42.52 million, but grew by 8.5 per cent by volume to 214,658 carats, to reach an average price of $198.11 per carat.%%Between the months of January and October, Japan’s total polished imports fell 11 per cent to $871.21 million, but rose by 9 per cent to 2.3 million carats, averaging $378.6 per carat.%%In the year-to-date, India contributed 44.5 per cent of Japan’s polished diamond imports by value and 77.8 per cent by volume. During the January-to-October period, polished imports from India decreased by 10.7 per cent to $387.58 million by value, but grew by 17.6 per cent in terms of volume to 1.78 million carats, to average $216.54 per carat.%%In October, imports from Belgium fell 9.3 percent to $19.92 million, while those from Israel declined by 5.5 per cent to $7.3 million. Polished imports from Hong Kong dropped by 2.4 per cent to $4.95 million, while imports from China soared by 89 per cent to $1.75 million.
