The Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal; Minister of State for Railways & Textiles, Darshana Jardosh along with Vice Chairman, GJEPC, Kirit Bhansali and Regional Chairman of Gujarat, GJEPC Vijaybhai Mangukiya, were present at an event organised by Surat Jewellery Manufacturers’ Association and supported by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council in Surat on November 21, 2022.

The Minister of Commerce appreciated the progress of Surat’s gem and jewellery industry. He also acknowledged the vital role played by GJEPC in conveying the issues of the trade to the Commerce Ministry and help industry resolve the issues. Goyal said, “I am in continuous touch with GJEPC and hold a meeting every fortnight to understand the situation of the industry.”

He informed that with the help of GJEPC and leaders of the Lab-Grown Diamond (LGD) industry of Surat, the Commerce Ministry is aggressively working towards the progress of the LGD growing and manufacturing industry in the diamond processing hub. Goyal encouraged the Surat industry leaders to prepare a vision document, which he would then share with the PM.
