Festivals have always been a time for bold expressions, and 2024’s year-end jewellery trends reflect this sentiment with flair. This year, jewellers are noticing a healthy mix of styles -- while some have observed chunky statement pieces picking up in the market, others are noting dainty jewellery flying off the shelves.
Yash Kataria, Kumari Fine Jewellery, Mumbai, describes the season as one where "bold statements meet timeless elegance" Vintage-inspired designs, layered necklaces adorned with symbolic motifs, and chunky statement rings are dominating collections. These styles, while contemporary, evoke a deep sense of tradition, making them the perfect choice for festive celebrations.
Tiara Dhody, Treasures by Tiara, Mumbai, puts the spotlight on chokers embellished with rubies and oversized cuffs that stand out. She adds, “Our convertible pendants and layered necklaces are in demand, offering versatility to transition seamlessly between traditional and modern looks. These designs cater to the growing preference for jewellery that is both eye-catching and wearable.”
On the other hand, minimalist trends are also carving their niche this season. According to Aditya Modak, PNGS, Pune, “Minimalist designs perfectly complement traditional and contemporary outfits, making them highly sought after.” Sleek and understated, these pieces have appeal across generations, offering a subtle, yet impactful, aesthetic.
Divine Solitaires brings another dimension to festive jewellery with larger solitaires and fancy shapes. Its focus on coloured diamonds and intricate patterns speaks to younger buyers eager for bold, yet sophisticated, options. “These non-traditional elements, including yellow diamonds and mixed metals, underscore a growing demand for individuality in festive adornments,” says Jignesh Mehta, Divine Solitaires, Mumbai.
The festive season’s collections are marked by vibrant hues and innovative materials. Kataria highlights the growing popularity of gemstones such as emeralds, rubies, and vibrant enamels. He also points to the rising demand for ethically sourced and lab-grown diamonds, as sustainability becomes a priority for many customers. “Colourful, yet sophisticated, designs are shaping this year’s collections,” he explains. “The interplay of different gold tones, particularly 14ct- and 18ct-gold, is a standout trend. Mother of pearl and enamel are being paired with gold tones to create unique, modern pieces,” he adds.
Adding a dash of colour to its collections, Treasures by Tiara has seen a rise in gemstones such as sapphires, rubies and sapphires. Dhody adds, “Champagne and uncut diamonds continue to gain traction for their understated elegance. Additionally, materials like velvet and leather — featured in our hairbands and cuffs — are emerging as popular elements, offering a tactile and contemporary twist to traditional designs.”
Modak observes a similar shift at PNGS, where gemstones such as green stones and rubies are giving a fresh twist to traditional designs. Also gaining traction are gemstones like topaz and blue stones, offering a fresh palette for festive adornments. “These colours bring a modern twist to traditional jewellery styles, ensuring a dynamic market,” explains Modak.
The interplay of timeless materials and contemporary colours has become a defining feature of this festive season. Divine Solitaires emphasizes the allure of vivid yellow diamonds, and the growing trend of mixing metals. “Yellow and rose gold, or white and rose gold combinations are captivating customers who seek a versatile, modern aesthetic,” Mehta explains. This blend of innovation and tradition ensures the collections resonate with a wide spectrum of buyers.
As customers gear up for festive celebrations, certain jewellery categories are emerging as clear favourites. Kataria notes that layered necklaces, statement rings, and asymmetrical earrings are at the forefront at Kumari Fine Jewellery. “These pieces perfectly balance festive elegance with everyday wearability,” he says
Treasures by Tiara’s standout offerings include earrings, statement rings, and unique items such as cufflinks and hairbands. “Customers increasingly seek jewellery that blends functionality with striking aesthetics,” Dhody notes.
Divine Solitaires, meanwhile, reports high demand for engagement and anniversary rings, solitaire necklaces, and pendants. Its solitaire-studded bangles and bracelets are also enjoying a surge in popularity. “These pieces — luxurious, yet practical — are perfect for the festive season,” Mehta says.
This year, customers are placing greater emphasis on quality and meaningful purchases. Kataria observes that versatile statement pieces have become a priority, with buyers seeking designs that transition seamlessly from festive occasions to everyday wear. At Treasures by Tiara, handcrafted designs and convertible jewellery are driving a steady increase in average ticket sizes. “Customers are valuing craftsmanship and longevity over fleeting trends,” Dhody adds.
PNGS’s average ticket size, ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, underscores the focus on exclusivity and investment-worthy pieces. Modak highlights that this shift is driven by a desire for jewellery that blends tradition, modernity, and individuality.
Divine Solitaires echoes these sentiments, noting stable spending patterns and a clear preference for high-value investments. “Timeless designs that hold emotional and financial significance are key,” Mehta states.
