With the rise of the gold loan takers, it is a necessity for the bank officers to identify false gold from the real. In order to facilitate, the easy identification of gold, the Central Bank recently organised a training programme for 17 of its officers to learn the gold testing ways.%%%% The training programme was conducted on 12th September 2012, at Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery, Mumbai. The programme instilled confidence in the staff in identifying false gold from real gold that is the prime concern in issuing loans against gold jewellery. Numerous practical tests were carried out to identify the different karat ages of gold jewellery. Various evaluating techniques and their comparison was discussed with practical demonstration in some cases. All possible combinations of testing gold by the acid and touchstone method were carried out by the participants. The specific gravity of testing gold was also demonstrated and practicals conducted.%%%% An objective exam was held at the end of the course, for valuation of individual performance after which certificates were issued.
