Antwerp’s exports and imports for rough diamonds increased favourably in July 2007, as reported by Diamond Office at the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC). In terms of value, exports were $1.16 billion, up by 22.2 percent, as compared to exports of July 2006. Also, with 16.0 million carats worth of exports, the volume increased by 32.7 percent.
Value of imports increased by 22.6 percent to $882.0 million, and volume rose to 11.9 million carats, an increase of 23.5 percent when compared to July 2006.
The export of polished diamonds was worth $1.11 billion, which was higher by 18.2 percent July 2006. Also the value of exports was higher by 26.2 percent to 1.04 million carats. Also, value of polished imports scaled up by 20.5 percent at $788.3 million, and volume stood at 744,062 carats, a 11.3 percent high.
