Citing the highest sales record in fancy coloured diamonds, a 0.95 carat Fancy Purplish Red diamond sold in 1987 at Christies for $926,315 per carat. The said category of diamond, seems to be appreciating over the last 30 years, A 1-carat Fancy Intense Internally Flawless Pink diamond which sold for $70,000, 20 years ago, is worth $500,000 today.
The fancy coloured diamonds category, appears to continue attracting high investments from buyers. In June 2007, a 1.06 carat Fancy Red Diamond, the only pure red diamond over one carat available for sale worldwide, was bought at $1.5 million through RareColoredDiamonds.com.
