Malabar Gold & Diamonds continues its philanthropic efforts by extending the Hunger-Free World Initiative to Zambia, committing to provide 3.6 million meals to schoolchildren
Malabar Gold & Diamonds, recognized as the 6th largest global jewellery retailer, expands its Hunger Free World initiative to Zambia, with a commitment to provide 3.6 million meals annually to schoolchildren. The initiative kicks off at John Laing Primary School in Lusaka, benefiting 6,000 children, and signifies Malabar Group's inaugural philanthropic venture in Africa.
The announcement, made at the Malabar International Hub in Dubai Gold Souq, was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Douglas Syakalima, Zambia's Minister of Education, M.P Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, and Professor Nkombo Muuka, the Consul General of the Republic of Zambia in Dubai. The Hunger Free World programme aims to tackle child malnutrition, gender disparities in education, and community development in collaboration with Zambia's Ministry of Education.
Chairman M.P. Ahammed pledged an additional 1 million meals from personal funds for another school identified by Minister Syakalima, demonstrating Malabar Group's commitment to creating positive change. Malabar Gold & Diamonds will construct a kitchen and eating shelter at John Laing Primary School, providing 10,000 meals daily in the initial phase.
M.P. Ahammed reiterated Malabar Group's dedication to philanthropy, stating, "Expanding this programme to Zambia reflects our commitment to creating positive change in the country. Recognising the dire need in Africa prompted our decision to extend the free food distribution scheme there."
In response, Minister Douglas Syakalima expressed appreciation for the noble initiative, affirming the Ministry of Education's support. "Through the launch of this venture, Malabar Gold & Diamonds is not only addressing a critical need but also exemplifying the essence of giving back to society, establishing itself as a model organisation," he remarked.
Chairman M.P. Ahammed emphasized the company's responsibility to give back to Africa, especially as it sources raw materials for jewellery production from the continent. The Hunger Free World initiative, launched in 2022 in alignment with UN's Sustainable Development Goal-2, currently operates numerous kitchens in India, providing 30,000 nutritious meals daily.
Established in 1993, Malabar Gold & Diamonds is committed to ESG initiatives, allocating 5% of net profits to areas such as Health, Housing, Education, and Women Empowerment. The expansion of the Hunger Free World initiative into Zambia underscores Malabar Group's commitment to social responsibility and community welfare.
