The India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Premiere 2024, hosted by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), has set a new industry milestone by generating a record-breaking USD 12 billion in business
The India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Premiere 2024, organized by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), has set a new benchmark in the industry by generating an astounding USD 12 billion in business over six days. This marks a record-breaking achievement for one of the world's largest B2B gem and jewellery shows.
Held from August 8-12, 2024, at JIO World Convention Centre and August 9-13, 2024, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NESCO Goregaon, Mumbai, the 40th edition of IIJS showcased the theme “Brilliant Bharat.” With an exhibition area of 135,000 square meters (1.45 million square feet), IIJS Premiere 2024 outstripped similar shows in the Western world in scale and scope. The event featured over 3,600 stalls and 2,100 exhibitors, drawing more than 50,000 buyers, including 15 international delegations from 13+ countries.
In conjunction with IIJS Premiere 2024, the IGJME Premiere, a notable Machinery and Allied Expo, ran from August 9-13, 2024. This expo, held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, showcased over 220 companies and 320 stalls, including an Italy Pavilion, emphasizing global participation and technological innovation.
The show received a significant boost with a visit from Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, who visited IIJS Premiere at the Bombay Exhibition Centre on August 10. Goyal announced the reintroduction of the Diamond Imprest Licence as a key policy initiative and discussed the Union Budget’s impacts on the gem and jewellery sector. He highlighted ongoing discussions with the G7 and other international bodies to enhance transparency and traceability in the diamond industry.
Governor of Maharashtra C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the IIJS Premiere 2024 at JIO World Convention Centre, commending the event’s growth and its role in promoting Brand India. Dr. Harshdeep Kamble, IAS, Principal Secretary (Industries), Govt. of Maharashtra, announced plans for a new, larger exhibition and convention centre in the upcoming Industrial Policy.
GJEPC Chairman Vipul Shah praised the show’s success, noting its record-breaking business figures and innovative displays. The event attracted 2,000 international buyers and emphasized the industry's shift towards catering to millennials and Gen Z. Shah expressed gratitude to all participants and pledged to continue elevating IIJS as a premier global platform.
Paul Rowley, Executive Vice President of Diamond Trading at De Beers Group, lauded India’s pivotal role in the diamond industry and highlighted plans to revitalize consumer interest through a new diamond origin campaign.
Former Miss World and GJEPC Brand Ambassador Manushi Chhillar celebrated India’s legacy in jewellery craftsmanship, emphasizing IIJS as a showcase of the country’s artistry and global leadership.
The Select Club, featuring 101 top-tier luxury and design brands, was a major highlight, reflecting a commitment to exceptional quality and sustainability. Nirav Bhansali, Convener of National Exhibitions at GJEPC, noted the Club’s expansion and its focus on luxury and innovation.
International delegations praised IIJS Premiere 2024 for its scale and opportunities for collaboration. Notable comments included:
- MAHA AL SIBAI, Chairperson of Dubai Business Group for Gold and Jewelry Designers, appreciated the show’s platform for exploring new trends and partnerships.
- Eiji Fuksawa, Senior Director of Japan Jewellery Association, expressed enthusiasm for India’s gem market and opportunities for collaboration.
- Naveen Sonkiya, President & CEO of Sekai Boeki Co. Ltd, highlighted India’s expertise in gem cutting and finished jewellery.
- Atul Jogani from the Jogani Group Of Companies discussed the potential for Indian jewellery in Thailand’s market.
- Elmira Khodjaeva, Director of the Association of Jewelers of Uzbekistan, praised the show’s diversity and scale.
The IIJS Premiere 2024 also featured the 40 Under 40 initiative, honouring emerging talent in the industry, and the 9th edition of Jewellers for Hope, a charity fundraiser with actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, benefiting MIAM Charitable Trust and the Gem & Jewellery National Relief Foundation (GJNRF).
