Large diamonds and high quality colored gemstones are expected to do well at the JCK show in Las Vegas that will kick off coming Saturday, said Lior Eshed, a principal of EshedDiam and Gemstar, two Israeli companies that operate under the same roof and produce respectively high-end, large diamonds and colored gemstones.%%“JCK Las Vegas has become the ultimate mood gauge for the American jewelry market.” Eshed noted, a second generation diamantaire who is also a trained lawyer. “If you come well prepared, bring the right goods, and make sure your clients come and see you – for back to back meetings – you will come away from the show with a clear picture of what to expect for the second half of the year, in other words for the holiday sale season. “%%Contrary to earlier in the year, when demand for larger stones was high but reluctance to pay the prices even higher, Eshed expects that in Las Vegas, sales will be much stronger. “For large diamonds, you have to come early enough in the season to have an attractive assortment to select from. As a top jeweler, you cannot afford to end up with goods that were never your first choice. You have to buy when you can get what you really want for your own clientele. And with large diamonds, that window of opportunity starts to close as early as after Vegas,” he said.%%Colored gemstones, and especially higher-end goods, will do also well at this JCK show, Eshed expects. “Especially in the USA, consumers have discovered the delight of colored gemstones, and moreover the choices they can make. These flood gates of choice, as it were, were opened already quite some time ago by Ben Affleck when he bought Jennifer Lopez a large, 6-carat pink diamond. Consumers who wanted to emulate that gesture, found they could not pay the price and, helped by their jewelers, turned to other to other pink stones. The fashion magazines have been filling pages with those alternative choices since and overnight, color was cool. We surely will see the results, again, in Las Vegas,” Eshed concluded.
