ANGOLA has come up with an initiative to establish a union of African diamond producing countries. Sierra Leone and Tanzania have also joined hands. According to Angolan government the idea for this initiative came from President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos, who hopes that this organization will strengthen the diamond sector in Africa, and will decrease the exploitation of the diamond industry for the financing of civil wars and for creating political instability in Africa%%Angola and Sierra Leone suffered in the past from this type of exploitation by rebel forces. Although Tanzania did not suffer from a similar situation, the country borders on the Democratic Republic of Congo, which also suffered from exploitation of its diamond industry
