Is the jewellers' unity falling apart?

The decision to call off strike has created a rift between the jewellers fraternity; the industry is singing two different tunes.

GJTCI & Jewellers Association had organised a gathering to celebrate and congratulate Mr Narendra Modi on his success in recent elections. The gathering was held at the President Hotel in Ahmedabad.%% The meet was attended by 40 to 50 members of GJTCI and Jewellers Association. The Chief Guests were Minakshi ben (Mayor), Mr Kiritbhai Solanki (MP), Mr Sombhai Modi (Elder brother of Mr Narendrabhai Modi) and Dr Shantibhai Patel (President - GJTCI). During the event Dr. Shantibhai Patel welcomed the honoured guests congratulated Mr Narendra Modi for his grand success. He said, “The state of Gujarat witnessed huge growth during Mr Modi’s leadership as he provided necessary support and cooperation to the industry as and when required. We and people of India have great expectations from him for the growth of India and gems & jewellery Sector.” %% Further while briefing about the gems & jewellery sector, Mr Patel requested the new government for the development of trade, increase in exports. He also talked about the issues faced by the sector viz. procurement of raw material, skilled manpower, domestic market, shifting of business to nearby countries, duty on import of Gold, upliftment of small and medium enterprise, etc. Further, he requested for Gem & Jewellery pavilion in the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat 2015. %% Dr. Kiritbhai Solanki (MP) said, “We are with the trade and the BJP government will provide full support for the betterment of the trade & industry. We would provide full cooperation for upcoming Vibrant Gujarat 2015.”%% While Minakshi ben emphasized on upliftment of women entrepreneur and encouraged woman to become entrepreneurs. She affirmed to provide necessary support and cooperation for the development of the industry and opined for development of museum displaying craftsmanship of Gujarat with antiques. Mr Sombhai Modi informed of providing full cooperation and support for the growth of Gem & Jewellery Industry.
