Rambhajo’s believes in keeping the traditions and culture of the country alive through its jewellery, which reflects the designs and tastes of a bygone era -- an era when kings and queen adorned themselves with exquisite, rich jewellery

Jaipur-based bridal specialist, Rambhajo’s, is truly one of a kind jewellerymanufacturer. The 100-year-old history and legacy of the company is as rich and colourful as its jewellery. It has been a long journey for Rambhajo’s, and, along the way, it has made a name for itself not just domestically, but also abroad.

Celebrating a rich legacy

Rambahjo’s was set up way back in 1921 by Kishan Das Gilara, who wanted to provide quality kundan, meena, polki and jadau ornaments to his clients. At that time, the number of clients was very small and the clientele was limited to the city of Jaipur. Since then, the company has come a long way. Presently, the business is managed by the fourth generation, with brothers Abhishek, Prateek, Nitin and Vipul Gilara managing the affairs.

Reminiscing about the early days, Abhishek Gilara, director, says, “Our founder had a very clear idea in his mind – to provide premium jewellery to the small number of clients he had at that time. He was very farsighted, and he knew, even in those days, that building a relationship is more important than short-term profits. So, he made sure to provide only high-quality ornaments, which went a long way in gaining the trust of his clients. That trust continues even 100 years later, and though our clientele and business has grown vastly since then, people still associate us with the principles that our founder espoused .

The journey onward

Interestingly, Rambhajo’s started the business in a small, rented room, and today, it has its factories in more than five cities, and its sales offices all over India, while its clients are spread all over the world. It is currently engaged in manufacturing, retail, designing and wholesale trade of highly specialized fine diamond-studded jewellery, as well as kundan, jadau and polki jewellery. It has three showrooms, one each at Jaipur, Jodhpur and Mumbai.

Even as the company keeps itself abreast of the current trends and consumer tastes of today, it believes in keeping the rich tradition, history and culture of the country alive. “While we are in touch with the contemporary tastes and trends, we find that our clients want heritage items. They prefer traditional jewellery, something that reminds them of the past, of the glorious bygone era of kings and queens and all that is associated with royalty,” says Abhishek.

Rambhajo’s believes that quality work comes from quality karigars, who need to be nurtured and appreciated. “Our artisans have been working with us for a long time. In fact, we have third and fourth generation workers with us, who are loyal to our company, who have, literally, grown up with us. All our jewellery is handmade, and you need skilled craftsmen to produce it. Our workers are of top quality, andit would not be wrong to say that they are one of a kind anywhere in the world. We value them greatly, and they, in turn, are loyal to us. Directly and indirectly, we work with a team of 4000 artisans,” adds Abhishek.

“At Rambhajo’s , the creative directors create the designs themselves. The design is the result of their love for gemstones, and their creativity. Before they actually create a design, it is already there in their mind. Actually, given a chance, they would never sell their creations, because they are so dear to them! But they understand that it is a business, and so, they cannot keep their creation with them,” continues Abhishek.
