Shiv Narayan Jewellers, a renowned brand in Hyderabad, is known for creating exceptionally rare and expensive masterpieces.
When the jeweller to the Nizams has something to showcase, it demands everyone's attention.
Recently, at the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, Bollywood sensation Disha Patani graced the ramp. All eyes were on her, particularly the mesmerizing neckpiece she wore—an exquisite Satlada necklace adorned with seven layers of shimmering emeralds and diamonds. Crafted by Shiv Narayan Jewellers, this necklace is one of the four pieces that have earned the brand a remarkable eight Guinness World Records titles this year, solidifying its position as the only Indian jeweller to achieve such a feat.
The Satlada necklace, tracing its origins back a century to the Nizam of Hyderabad, boasts an astonishing count of 315 emeralds and 1,971 diamonds. Consequently, it has rightfully claimed the Guinness World Records titles for the most number of emeralds and diamonds set on a necklace. Another record-breaking piece unveiled during the event was the Ganesh Pendant, acknowledged as the heaviest pendant, weighing an impressive 1,011.15 grams. With an astounding count of 11,472 diamonds, it also holds the title for the most diamonds set on a pendant. Later, the jewellers surpassed their own record with the Ram Darbar pendant, weighing an even heavier 1,681.82 grams and featuring 54,666 diamonds. This addition earned them the title for the heaviest diamond pendant as well. Notably, the diamonds on the pendant are inscribed with Sri Ram, even on the reverse side.
Tushar Agarwal, the brand's managing director, shares that a dedicated team of over 15 individuals worked tirelessly for more than three years to create these extraordinary pieces. Each piece required six to eight months for completion, while the sourcing of the rare gemstones alone took over two and a half years. The diamonds used are of the highest quality, with VS (Very Slightly Included) and SI (Slightly Included) clarity, all sourced within India. VS diamonds are of exceptional quality, with minimal inclusions or blemishes that are only visible under 10x magnification. SI diamonds, although slightly less flawless, still maintain superior quality. Considering the exceptional quality and abundance of stones, one might assume these pieces would command a princely sum. However, they are not for sale, as Agarwal firmly states.
"These are unique artistic creations brought to life through the jeweller's passion and innovation. They hold immense sentimental value to us, and we have no intention of selling them immediately," explains Agarwal. He further reveals the plan to exhibit these remarkable pieces in national and international exhibitions over the next few years, allowing everyone a chance to admire them. The aim is to showcase the brand's commitment to crafting luxury jewellery that remains accessible only to a discerning few. While the showcased jewellery is not available for purchase, there is a record-breaking ornate magnifying glass encrusted with diamonds and emeralds that is available for sale.
The quality of the gemstones used in these creations has been certified by SGL Labs, a New York-based diamond identification and grading service. The magnifying glass has been valued at $108,346 (approximately ?88.88 lakhs) and holds the Guinness World Records title for 'the most expensive magnifying glass.'
Earning eight record titles is an exceptional achievement, but Shiv Narayan Jewellers is no ordinary jewellery maker. Its roots can be traced back to 1923 when its founder, Seth Shiv Narayan, became associated with the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan. For over 25 years, Narayan served as his head jeweller, leading a team that crafted regal emerald ornaments through the 1930s and 40s. The timeless bejewelled treasures that the Nizam—once the richest man in the world—had in his vaults are known to all. With these new treasures, the current generation of Agarwals is merely carrying on that tradition.
