Bollywood icon Kareena Kapoor brought star power to the 40th edition of the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) 2024, held in Mumbai and organized by The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). The event, a significant platform for the gem and jewellery industry, showcased a wide array of products, from diamonds and gemstones to high-end couture jewellery and innovative technologies.

During the event, Dr. Harshdeep Kamble, Principal Secretary (Industries) for the Government of Maharashtra, announced plans for a new, larger Exhibition & Convention Centre in Mumbai. This centre, alongside the introduction of “Smart Manufacturing,” will be a key feature in Maharashtra’s new Industrial Policy, set to be unveiled in September 2024. Dr. Kamble emphasized that the future of the gem and jewellery sector lies in technological advancements and smart manufacturing, positioning Maharashtra as a leader in this new industrial era.

Vipul Shah, Chairman of GJEPC, highlighted the growth of IIJS into the world’s second-largest B2B gem and jewellery show, with over 2,500 international visitors and 15 delegations attending. He expressed confidence that with continued government support and industry collaboration, India’s gem and jewellery exports could reach USD 100 billion by 2047.

The event also saw discussions on the importance of artisanal jewellery in elevating Brand India on the global stage. Industry leaders like Sandeep Kohli, CEO of Novel Jewels, stressed the need to move towards premiumization and decommoditization of the industry to appeal to global consumers.

As the industry embraces these innovations, IIJS 2024 not only celebrated the artistry and craftsmanship of India’s jewellery sector but also underscored Maharashtra’s role as a hub of innovation and excellence in the global market.
