Backed by the four-decade legacy of Goldiam International Ltd., ORIGEM has entered India’s fine jewellery segment with a focus on lab-grown diamonds (LGDs). Positioned as a contemporary brand, ORIGEM seeks to reshape how Indian consumers experience solitaire jewellery, offering modern designs that emphasise ethical sourcing, accessibility, and affordability.
The brand derives its name from the Portuguese word for "origin" and is built around the premise that the only difference between a mined and a lab-grown diamond is its source. By leveraging lab-grown technology and international design sensibilities, ORIGEM aims to challenge conventional perceptions of luxury in India’s diamond jewellery landscape.
“Large solitaire diamonds have long been seen as aspirational and often out of reach for many Indian consumers,” said Anmol Bhansali, Managing Director of Goldiam International Ltd. “With ORIGEM, our objective is to change that narrative by offering high-quality lab-grown solitaires in design-forward pieces that reflect global trends and local aspirations.”
Goldiam International, which is listed on NSE and BSE, has a strong export footprint in the American and European markets. With LGDs now comprising over 70% of its B2B revenue—up from just 5%—the company is aligning its domestic retail strategy with global demand trends.
The brand’s flagship outlet on Turner Road in Mumbai’s Bandra district is supported by stores in Borivali, Andheri, Kharghar, Mulund, and within the Fairmont Hotel. This focused retail footprint is designed to cater to Mumbai’s growing urban demographic, which increasingly values sustainability, transparency, and style in their jewellery choices.
“Our product philosophy is rooted in offering IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds set in BIS Hallmarked 14kt and 18kt gold,” said Abhinav Kumar, President of ORIGEM, who brings prior experience from Titan, U.S. Polo Assn., and ALDO. “We aim to blend international bestsellers with insights into Indian consumer preferences to create collections that are relevant and emotionally resonant.”
Looking ahead, ORIGEM plans to scale significantly, with a target of 200 exclusive stores across India over the next three years. The expansion is not just about increasing retail presence, but also about fostering greater consumer awareness and acceptance of lab-grown diamonds as a legitimate, desirable alternative.
As consumer attitudes continue to evolve—driven by rising disposable incomes, growing interest in sustainability, and a shift towards self-expression—brands like ORIGEM are betting on lab-grown diamonds to lead the next wave of growth in the Indian jewellery sector.
