THE final round of judging of the Jewellery Designing Competition organized in collaboration with ATRIJD Institute of Jewellery Design and Lucky Lakshmi festival by the GJF, the WGC and ATR Institute of Jewellery Design (ATRIJD); and supported by Jewelbiz India was done by a jury consisting of celebrities from the fields of fashion, jewellery, art, etc. and was held on Thursday, November, 16th, 2006 at the Hotel Sea Princess, Juhu. %% The theme for this year’s competition was “Fusion” and the contestants were asked to create designs for a necklace set that marries ethnic charm with contemporary imagination in plain gold of 22k and above. %% Originality, interpretation of the ‘Gold and New’ theme, practicality, wearability of the finished piece and the style statement the design makes were the criteria for judging the designs. The contest was open to all and more than 1000 entries were received out of which the top 12 designs were short listed. These 12 pieces were fabricated and the winners were selected from among them in the final round of judging. %% The judges included Ms.Papri Bose is a visual artist who studied art in Vienna, Mr.Dharmesh Sodah, Joint Director of World Gold Council, Ms.Amisha Khanna, a well-known jewellery designer, Ms.Archana Kochhar, fashion designer, Ms.Deepa Kakkar, CEO of DK&A, a creative brand consulting firm. %% Three designs were short listed and were awarded the winner and runners up respectively. The winner gets 100 gms of gold while the two runners up get 50 gms each respectively. The rest of the 9 short listed designers shall receive 10 gms ogf gold each. %% The winner is Ms.Mansi Moolchandani, a student from Jaipur. Her design is called ‘HUMAN BONDING’ and her Inspiration is the ‘Bonding’ and ‘Support’ in human relationships. She feels her design truly exemplifies a perfect fusion of ancient and contemporary styles of designing. %% The runner up is Ms.Sneha Khivansara who is a student from Mumbai. Her design is called THE STEPPING STONE. Her Inspiration is Nature, specifically the tree trunks which give us the fruits of life. Her design is a fusion of nature with a very modernized look, the uneven steps and the beautiful filigree and granulation that show us the ups and downs on the path of success. %% The other runner-up is Ms.Naina Temani, a student from Jaipur. The name of her design is SHINING FLOWERS WITH CURVY WIRES. Her inspirations are flowers, floral patterns and winding wires. Her design explores the concept of hanging shining dome flowers which is most unique and also the use of leafy pattern wires which interests her the most.
