Indian diamond and jewellery manufacturer Shrenuj & Company Ltd. has made a generous gift of $250,000 to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), half of it designated to support the Institute's diamond research program, and the remainder directed to GIA's Endowment for Education in India. Shreyas Doshi, the company's Managing Director, and his father, Kirtilal Doshi, Chairman of the board, will be recognized at GIA's League of Honor Dinner on September 19 in New York in appreciation of the significant gift. The student reading centre at GIA's Richard T. Liddicoat Gemological Library & Information Centre in Carlsbad has been named for the company. %% The gift to GIA demonstrates Shreyas Doshi's personal belief in legendary humanitarian Mahatma Gandhi's teachings about commitment and dedication to important causes. %% Shreyas Doshi's grandfather, who founded Shrenuj & Company, and his father, Kirtilal Doshi, who built the business, also strongly shaped him. He said his father has accomplished very significant advices for the Indian diamond industry since he joined it 61 years ago. These included establishing the Indian Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), serving for many years on the Indian government's Export Advisory Committee and a long and distinguished leadership role as Chairman of the Gemological Institute of India.
Help for Women:
Shreyas Doshi follows in his father's footsteps as the youngest person to become chairman of the GJEPC of India. He also pioneered the introduction of laser sawing of diamonds at his company and helped offer employment opportunities to women by opening an all-female diamond polishing unit. Shrenuj & Company employs nearly 850 people and manufacturers a number of branded diamonds. They have won many awards for their jewellery, including two Diamonds International Awards from the Diamond Trading Company. %% Shreyas Doshi said. "I believe the Indian gems and jewellery industry will continue to grow in double digits for the next few years because of its inherent competitive advantages creativity, skill and low costs." %% Doshis' gifts to GIA's Endowment for Education in India will be permanently invested and a portion of the interest generated will be used exclusively to support the growth of GIA India, including future scholarships for students of the learning centre.
Lady Detective Rajni Pandit Chosen KIAH Woman of the Month
Rajni Pandit, the first woman detective in the country and is now the KIAH Woman of the Month of March also. %% At a special felicitation ceremony at the exclusive KIAH showroom in Mumbai, Govindbhai L. Kakadia, Chairman, Sheetal Group, presented Rajni Pandit with a KIAH Pendant as a token of distinction.
Double Honors for Bhavani Gems
Manjibhai Dholkia of Bhavani Gems was honored with "National Industry Award" & '21st Centuary Corporate Leadership Award' by the International Integration Growth Society & International Achievers Development Organization for extraordinary achievements. %% These awards were presented to Heet M. Dholkia, Director of Bhavani Gems on March 9, 2005 in New Delhi.
