The World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) president Gaetano Cavalieri extended his condolences both personally and on behalf members of the organisation, to the family of illustrious geologist and gemstone miner Campbell Bridges who was recently murdered in Kenya. %% Cavalieri also wrote a letter to Bridges' widow, Judith, and his son, Bruce, mentioning, "Sad and disturbed on hearing about Campbell's murder, I write to you to offer the condolences of the members of CIBJO. Campbell had many friends and admirers in our organisation, and his name was always mentioned when the tales of Tsavorite, of the mines in Tsavo or of Kenya as a gem producing country were told. We wish you strength and faith in these difficult days." %% He also expressed concern about the police investigation into the crime. Reports state that a gang of illegal prospectors had carried out the attack armed with machetes, knives and spears. Cavalieri said "We urge the Kenyan authorities not to rest until they have brought the perpetrators to trial and convicted for this atrocious crime. As an organisation that seeks to advance social and corporate responsibility in the gem and jewellery industry and trade, CIBJO will continue to follow the case closely, until justice is served."
