Jewellery to become expensive for buyers; gem and jewellery export to be affected.
The Gem & Jewellery India International Exhibition (GJIIE), a B2B platform for indian jewellery retailers to present their best to international and domestic buyers, concluded today, at the Chennai Trade & Convention Centre in Chennai. This year was the 7th edition of the event, and spanned three days, from 26 - 28 February 2011 and was organised by MJDMA and UBM India Pvt. Ltd. %% This edition seemed to have generated a ‘better conclusion’ over last year with – a 30 percent increase in participation over last year, in which diamond jewellery retailers were seen in good numbers over previous editions where usually there is a larger participation of gold jewellery retailers for which Chennai is known. The show receives participation from retailers across the country, as such presenting a varied range in jewellery for buyers. %% CNC gold bangles, solitaire bangles and light weight gold jewellery were seen at the show as are seen as the new selling varieties. What the show lacked and was highlighted by many participants was the lack of security and the distribution of show passes to consumers for a b2B event. %% Yet, with the optimistic conclusion of the event this year, the organizers are hoping for a further 30 percent increase in participation and stretching the event to four days.
