Altogether, 500 pieces of Wimbledon jewellery will be crafted and will include tennis bracelets and pendants. Gitanjali is exploring the design of the jewellery using steel and titanium.
Anuj Rakyan, Vice President of Retail at Gitanjali said that the company was keen to establish its brands overseas using international events as a launch platform. Gitanjali's association with sports is as part of its strategy to position its lifestyle image beyond retail.
In an offbeat strategy to reach out to international markets, Gitanjali Gems has signed a three-year contract to create jewellery for the Wimbledon tennis championship. It has already crafted a token for the winner of the Wimbledon Champions 2007; a tennis ball studded with 4,300 diamonds.
