The Cuttack Tarkashi Association, a consortium comprising five Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise (MSME) units with 20 skilled craftsmen, will be showcasing Tarkashi silver filigree jewellery in the US for the first time.

The story of the consortium unfolded some three months ago, when one of the companies, Jaipur Jewels Pvt. Ltd., was approached to popularise Cuttack filigree jewellery at various shows, starting with the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show in February 2022.

Despite being made with rudimentary production techniques that yield low economic returns to the local artisans, the modern filigree collection is bound to resonate with younger generations. The artisans have been engaged in conceptualising, drawing, and making each piece by hand.

The consortium is now pinning its hopes on a positive response in the US to the handcrafted jewellery in order to support the community of independent artisans.

They are currently working overtime to finish the silver filigree rings, bracelets and earrings studded with semi-precious stones to be showcased at the Tucson show in Arizona, USA.
