During a meeting held in Mumbai, members of the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) and Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) convened to discuss the potential transition to the SDB premises located in Khajod, on the outskirts of Surat.
Led by SDB chairman Govind Dholakia of SRK Exports, vice-chairman Lalji Patel of Dharmanandan Diamonds, along with president Arvind Shah and vice-president Ashesh Doshi, the SDB delegation engaged with traders and brokers from BDB, including president Anup Mehta and vice-chairman of Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council Kirit Bhansali.
In their deliberations, traders from BDB expressed their desire for a Jain temple to be constructed on BDB premises and requested a designated area for supper before sunset, in accordance with Jain customs. Responding to these requests, Lalji Patel assured that the concerns raised would be addressed.
Additionally, discussions included plans for BDB traders to open offices in SDB, with assurances given regarding the initiation of interior work by SDB office owners to facilitate operations by July 7, coinciding with the auspicious day of Ashadhi Beej. While some BDB merchants expressed intent to maintain their offices in BDB and operate from Surat as well, with designated personnel managing operations in Mumbai and Surat, positive responses were received overall, with commitments made to address concerns raised by BDB brokers and traders.
