On August 1st, in Mumbai, De Beers and the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) convened to strategize on enhancing the natural diamond market in India
The meeting underscored the need for increased education and awareness about natural diamonds among consumers and retailers.
Key representatives from De Beers, including Shweta Harit, Global Senior Vice President; Amit Pratihari, Vice President of De Beers Forevermark India; and Jodine Bolden, Director of Education, highlighted the growing importance of the Indian market in the global diamond industry. The GJEPC delegation was led by Diamond Panel Members Nilesh Kothari and Milan Chokshi, along with Executive Director Sabyasachi Ray.
The De Beers team stressed the necessity of harnessing industry expertise to tackle market-specific challenges. They proposed providing targeted education and support to retailers, with a particular focus on those in smaller towns and cities. This joint initiative between De Beers and GJEPC aims to communicate the intrinsic value of natural diamonds, encouraging retailers to diversify and expand their offerings.
Through this collaborative effort, De Beers and GJEPC are committed to fortifying the Indian market for natural diamonds, ensuring its continued growth and sustainability.
